Obituary

Mrs. Mary Anne Wain, “MA”, of Pelzer, SC passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the age of 71.

Mary Anne was born to Henry and Mary Mann in Harrisburg, PA. She was the eldest of four and attended Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing, NJ. Following graduation, she went on to work for the FBI in Washington DC, where she met her future husband, James E. Wain. They married in 1969 and relocated to Mays Landing, NJ, where they spent 49 years raising a family before moving to Pelzer, SC. Mary Anne graduated Atlantic County Vocational and Technical School as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for Shore Memorial Hospital for 24 years. Mary Anne actively supported her community as a member of several different organizations, including the Civic Club and Parent Teacher Association.

Mary Anne is survived by her husband, James, her three daughters, Cheryl Brown (Josh), Tracy Krasuski (Marc), and Christine Stewart (Josh), nine grandchildren, and her three brothers, Henry “Jay”, Mark (Janet), and Michael Mann.

Mary Anne enjoyed gardening, reading, coloring, and above all, spending time with family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Mary Anne supported food pantries as part of her church community while in NJ and SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the food pantries of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church at 2252 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681 or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at 5021 Harding Highway, Mays Landing, NJ 08330.

Josh, Christine and "The Quads, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I wish I was there to give you all a hug. Then again, I always do. Your family photo is on my fridge. I even see it more often now because I don't have a 6 foot social distance from the fridge. Toby told me years ago when Josh was young that he was her heart. I have 8 Stewart family members who are also a big portion of my heart. So even though I am not there with you in a way I am. You are a part of my forever best friend, Tam. Hope to see you all soon under happier circumstances. Please stay safe and healthy. Love always, Auntie Rosie Roberts

As Mary Anne’s neighbors for the last two years, our family fondly remembers her infectious smile and welcoming spirit. She welcomed not only the sounds of children playing while graciously inviting them over to share books, her seesaw, or “hug lights” for reading but our southern accents as well. In a time when many people are known for perceiving their neighbors as inconvenient, Mary Anne treated us as longtime friends. One of our only regrets is not learning how to make or taste her Chicken Pot Pie! We celebrate her life but grieve her absence as we spend many evenings in our backyard.

As someone who greatly enjoyed the simple pleasures that life has to offer, Mary Anne will continue to be a reminder to us to be grateful for those things and for the people who share them with us. We will miss her dearly.

Mary Anne was a kind and generous person. She eased our transition from New Jersey to South Carolina. Whether it was giving us their guest room (during covid-19) or providing a care package of dishes and silverware and anything else we might need until we were able to unpack. I will really miss our middle of the night insomnia calls. I would text “are you up?” and shortly I would get a call. Mary Anne loved to tell me stories about raising her children and about her grand children. She was such a happy person. We will really miss her. With love, Donna Hale-Scheuermann
