The year was 1969 in Teaneck NJ in a parking lot behind a small supermarket named Food Fair where I met Pat and we became friends. He lived a stone’s throw from that location in an apartment on West Gate Road with his twin brother Mike and their much younger red-headed sister. We grew up together over the next several years in a group of friends playing stickball, Ringolevio, engaging in childish mischief and other youthful indiscretions. Pat and I frequented a nearby restaurant almost daily and soon landed jobs there as kitchen help. While working in the restaurant, Pat met Dick O’Leary, a plumber, who gave Pat a start into his life-long profession.

It is predictable and understandable that time, geographic distancing and occupational choice can cause a chasm which separate friends for life. Although almost 50 years have passed, I still remember and think about the times we shared. Thank you, Pat, for the memories and the friendship.
