Pamela McCallum Scott, 71 – of Mays Landing, passed away after a brief illness Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Shore Medical Center. Born in Atlantic City, Pam was a lifelong Mays Landing resident. She graduated from Oakcrest High School in 1964 and earned her teachers certificate at Trenton State College from where she graduated in 1968. She returned to her hometown and became a teacher at Shaner Elementary School in Mays Landing from 1968-1988, then moved to Rittenburg and Spragg Schools in Egg Harbor City from 1989-2007. Throughout her career she taught students from kindergarten to eighth grade and shared her love of literature and writing. She put thousands of hours into school programs, Honor Society events and other student activities. It was a rare occasion when “Mrs. Scott” would go shopping and not run into at least one of the students. And she invariably remembered all of them.
Daughter of the late Jack and Betty McCallum, she will be forever missed by her husband of 43 years, James Scott and her daughters Courtney (James) Humphrey and Master Sergeant, Lauren (Eric) Humphrey as well as her favorite people to spoil rotten: Grandchildren Jimmy, Jayson, Eric, Madison and Justin. Pam also leaves behind her brother Jack McCallum (Donna) as well as many other close family and friends. She is reunited in heaven with her son Chad Scott.
As a lifelong member of the Mays Landing Presbyterian Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years as well as Deacon and Elder and sat on countless committees. After her retirement, Pam became active in the Senior Citizens Association in Mays Landing, volunteering at various community events. Never one to let the grass grow under her feet, she even started a turnover cleaning service in Stone Harbor/Avalon, the earnings from which she would spend on lunches and shopping trips with her friends she called “the girls.” She traveled to France several times, as well as to Italy, Germany and other countries in Europe with her husband and dear friends.
Services will be held at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, on Monday, June 18th at 11am. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be with her grandparents, parents and son at Union Cemetery immediately following the service.
For those who wish, memorial contributions in Pam’s memory may be made to the Presbyterian Church, 6001 Main St., Mays Landing, NJ, 08330. At her insistence, we will not mourn her death, but we will celebrate her life. In the words of Dr. Seuss, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
