Mary Emma Sartorio (Peterson)
SARTORIO, MARY EMMA (nee Peterson). Mary Emma Sartorio passed from this world May 4th following a brief illness. Born April 8, 1921 in Bloomington Indiana and moved to Egg Harbor City in 1937. Mary Emma graduated from Egg Harbor High School in 1939 and served her country in the US Marine Corps Reserve from 1943 to 1945, where she attained the rank of Staff Sargent. After the war she returned to the area where she married Henry Sartorio on February 15, 1947 and together they raised their three children. A working mom, her career included being a co-owner of Ja-Me’s Diner and working for Egg Harbor Boat Co, Our Ladies Residence, Ben Franklin 5&10 and Laurette Press. In her later years she was a member of the St. Nicholas Church/OLPH Parish Comfort Ministry. Over her life Mary Emma was a member of many organizations including; MoFaMoSaKuWi, Alpha Tau Sorority, St. Nicholas School PTA, Egg Harbor City Crusaders, the American Legion, EHC Historical Society, the St. Nicholas Altar and Rosary Societies and Red Hats. She is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Elizabeth (Bess) Peterson, brothers Jack and Jim, sister Barbara (Peterson) Englehardt and a great-grandson Charles Kaelble. She is survived by her husband of 71 years Henry, daughter Pam (Sartorio) Kaelble, sons Robert (Kathleen) and Philip (Theresa), brother Joe Peterson (Betty) and sister Shirley Winterbottom. She is also survived by grandchildren Christine Kaelble, Scott Kaelble, Todd Kaelble, Robert Sartorio, Jr, Barbara Russell, Jason Sartorio and Aaron Sartorio; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and, all of her friends.
A viewing will be held Wednesday May 9th from 9:30 to 11 AM at St. Nicholas Church 525 St. Louis Avenue, Egg Harbor City followed by a funeral Mass. Interment will be at the Egg Harbor City Cemetery.
